Presentation of a
Check to the Town from the Civic Association
A plaque will be installed honoring Miss Jennie Reninger. Ms. Reninger left the Civic Association a sizable portion of her estate upon her passing.

Sanctioning the
“Class of the 70’s” Event at Eaglenest Entertainment
If Town sanctioned, the event could be advertised throughout the Town (signage).
The discussion then led to placing banners across

Consideration of a
Resolution in Regard to Mutual Aid
RESOLUTION NO. 06-53
A RESOLUTION OF
THE BOARD OF ALDERMEN OF THE TOWN OF MAGGIE VALLEY, NORTH CAROLINA AUTHORIZING
THE MAGGIE VALLEY CHIEF OF POLICE TO TEMPORARILY PROVIDE ASSISTANCE TO OTHER
LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES PURSUANT TO N.C.G.S. #160A-288 AND N.C.G.S. #
160A-288.2
WHEREAS, N.C.G.S. # 160A-288 AND # 160A-288.2 that the governing body of the Town of Maggie Valley may authorize the Chief of the Maggie Valley Police Department to temporarily provide assistance to other law enforcement agencies enforcing the laws of North Carolina if so requested in writing by the head of the requesting agency; and
WHEREAS,
N.C.G.S. #160A-461 allows units of local government to enter into agreements to
execute various undertakings; and
WHEREAS, the
Board of Aldermen of the Town of Maggie Valley by its adoption of this
Resolution intends to grant authority to the Maggie Valley Police Chief to
authorize assistance to other law enforcement agencies pursuant to the
provisions of N.C.G.S. #160A-288 and #160A-288.2 and to enter into mutual aid
agreements to effectuate such arrangements.
NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Aldermen of the Town of

2. Any decision by the Chief of Police to
provide assistance pursuant to the authority granted herein and in N.C.G.S.
#160A-288 and #160A-288.2 shall be subject to the prior approval of the Town
Manager.
3. The Chief of Police shall not provide
assistance to any requesting agency if doing so would impair the ability of the
Maggie Valley Police Department to provide effective police protection for the
citizens of the Town of
4. The Chief of Police is authorized to enter
into written mutual aid agreements with other law enforcement agencies provided
such agreements are consistent with the provisions of N.C.G.S. #160A-288 or
N.C.G.S. #160A-288.2 and other applicable state statues and further subject to
the prior approval of any such agreement by the Town Manager.
ALDERMAN PRICE MADE A MOTION TO APPROVE
RESOLUTION NO. 06-53.
MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY.
Consideration of
recommending to the Haywood County Commissioners that Bill Chamberlin be named
to the Maggie Valley Planning Board as an ETJ Member.
The Planning Board recommends the appointment of Mr. Chamberlin.
Mr. Chamberlin was interviewed by the Planning Board and was found to be well qualified with good experience and a great interest.
The
ALDERMAN EDWARDS MADE A MOTION TO RECOMMEND THE
MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY.
Manager’s Report
Manager Barth reported that the Council of Government Subcommittee decided to request to be appointed to the Commissioners committee to research the structure and spending of the Haywood County Tourist Development Authority.
A steering committee has been appointed to follow through with having a stage built on the festival grounds in memory of Wade Reece. The Reece Family has secured the funding for construction and will have a well-known entertainer perform a concert with the proceeds going toward lighting and sound equipment. The committee is now awaiting a report/drawings from the architect
Other Business
Mayor McElroy read a thank you note from Don & Blanch
Campbell, who were previously honored with a plaque for their many
contributions to
Alderman DeMeola and Aldridge would like to incorporate the brick purchased through the brick fundraiser at the festival grounds. Approximately $4,700 was collected during the fundraiser. The inscribed brick could be placed along the walkway or at a sitting area at the waterfalls. The fundraiser could be started again to raise money.
Alderman Aldridge will contact the brick company to see if the cost has risen over the past two years and get a time frame for having the inscription put on the bricks that have already been purchased.
Presentation of
Plaque Honoring Harry Ward to the Ward Family
Mayor McElroy asked Alderman Price to present the plaque to Mr. Ward’s son, daughter, and grandson.
The Town of Maggie Valley appreciates all Mr. Ward did for the town and community.
