Discussion Regarding the Selection Process for a New Alderman

General Statues (160A-63) allow Council to appoint someone to fill a vacancy.  The interview process has worked well in the past.  Mayor McElroy and Alderman DeMeola both were  appointed after going through the interview process to fill a vacancy.  It is the most democratic method of selection.

Alderman Aldridge stated that the Town has some pressing issues to address and that he would go along with the process his fellow board members desire but he was ready to make the appointment today.

After further discussion, it was determined that the interview process would be the route Council would take.

ALDERMAN PRICE MADE A MOTION TO ADVERTISE AND ACCEPT APPLICATIONS/ LETTERS OF INTEREST UNTIL JUNE 14, 2006; AT THAT TIME INTERVIEWS WOULD BE SCHEDULED.

MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY.

ON MOTION OF ALDERMAN DEMEOLA, WITH ALL IN FAVOR THE MEETING ADJOURNED AT 9:50 A.M.
