Mayor McElroy called the meeting to order at
Manager Barth explained that after the bid openings for the construction of the Police Department, it was determined that the Town should request approval for a maximum amount of $1,000,000 from the Local Government Commission.
BB& T will finance any additional monies at the same
rate previously approved (
Alderman Edwards had concerns about the Town going into debt and then having an unexpected emergency come up in the future.
Manager Barth explained that the new annexations increasing the tax base would more than cover the annual payments. Approximately $40,000 of the $80,000 engineering fees has already been paid. It is assumed that the General Contractor with the lowest bid will still adjust the bid by at least 5%. The generator cost will be split between the Police Department and the Enterprise Fund.
Council realizes that some citizens feel the cost of a new Police Department is too extreme. Council also acknowledged that under the current conditions, the department does not meet State standards. The building will be utilized by the Police Department for the next 30 to 40 years without expansions.
ALDERMAN EDWARDS MADE A MOTION TO APPROVE RESOLUTION 06-82 APPROVING
THE FINANCING OF THE POLICE DEPARTMENT.
MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY.
ON MOTION OF ALDERMAN DEMEOLA, CARRIED BY ALL, THE MEETING ADJOURNED AT
